S.T.A.G.E. annual gala benefit for AIDS was another huge success Saturday April 2. Entitled Original Cast 2, highlights included: Liz Callaway singing "The Story Goes On" from Baby, Vicki Lewis rocking the theatre with "Don't Rain on my Parade" from Funny Girl, a wonderful duet/set with Carole Cook and Lee Roy Reams reminiscing about 42nd Street, and an unforgettable finale with the one and only Carol Channing singing her signature "Hello Dolly". I commented to Miles Kreuger that she will most likely be singing this tune until the end. His response? Precious: "Perhaps beyond that!" Tyne Daly, Rita Moreno, Obba Babatunde, Valarie Pettiford, Robert Morse, Dale Kristien, Bill Hutton, Mary Jo Catlett, Jane Kean, Patrick Cassidy and other great stage stars gave 150% to their performances. It was a great evening with a tribute to the late, great Betty Garrett. Film clips of Garrett's past 27 performances for S.T.A.G.E. opened the show directed so lovingly by David Galligan.
